Neucarl Sept Mai Futuristic Minimalism
Insparation
The inspiration for the Neucarl Sept Mai comes straight out of the mind of its creator Francois Carrier. This ultra-modern futuristic minimalist looking watch at first glance of the Founders edition made me reminisce of the door to Cerebro in X-Men.
Case
A scratch resistant 361L stainless steel case with a beautiful high polished finish makes this a very nice dress watch indeed. However, the dimensions of 41mm makes the dial feel large for a dress watch and the 45.8mm lug to lug adds to this illusion.
One of the main features of the design is the open display caseback to the movement. This screwed down caseback of the Neucarl Sept Mai has four truncated triangle that make up the 20mm lugs. Impressively if you flip the watch to face up you can see a very nice break between case and lug which offers a unique look and depth. At the side profile this look makes it feel like the watch could take off and leave the base behind.
The case is finished with a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, a signed crown, and skeleton hands. My only criticism here is that I would have liked those hands. Simply in low light, they go missing briefly when aligned with the dividers.
Dial
Francois has done a great job with the Neucarl Sept Mai dial. The one I have here is the Roma and there are move variations of this dail out there and more to come all with different city names .i.e New York. These variations come in different dial colours and hands.
This sandwich dial has a bottom dial lusciously coated in BGW9 superluminova with the top dial cut into12 distinct sections to indicate a 12-hour cycle. Central to this is a center circle with indexes and a name and model. The alignment is perfect through the section dividers and outer ring indexes. At 3 o’clock is the date window.
Movement
Underneath that expensive dial is the Sellita SW215-1 which offers a smooth 4Hz (28,800) sweep, hacking, quick date set, and 19 Jewels. At 3.35mm thick it enables the watch to keep its slender form. Additionally, the Neucarl Sept Mai is easily serviceable by any reputable watchmaker.
Bracelet / Straps
The Neucarl Sept Mai has plenty of strap options and colours. I found the lightweight leather straps a good fit however with dimensions of 75x115x20mm some may find them a little small. The leather is almost rubbery in form due to the scratch-resistant coating. One good thing with these straps is they are quick release of easy strap changes. I can tell you this the watch is a strap monster and you’ll have to buy a myriad of straps for it simply because you can. I placed some of the straps I bought from StrapsCo on it and they looked fantastic.

Final Thoughts
My thoughts on the watch are this, if you need a nice legible dress watch then you can’t go wrong with the Neucarl Sept Mai and at €599, to for a watch not built of factory parts that’s a good price. I really enjoyed my time with this watch.
