Jumping Over The Moon By MAALS
Insparation
As many of you are aware MAALS watches recently sent me their latest watch release the Giri Ventiquattro watch to review, that’s now for preorder on their website. However my first introduction to the MAALS brothers was at Watchit 2019, there I was introduced to their first watch Jumping Over The Moon. Andy kindly lent me both versions of the original Alfa Romeo inspired designed watch alongside the new watch.
Case
Jumping Over The Moon comes in two variations: a black PVD coated and 361L Stainless Steel version. Both variations of the watch are 42mm in diameter. Additionally, both come with domed sunburst dials in black and silver and domed mineral crystals with an anti-reflective coating on the underside. The black version has a grey central seconds hand and dial markers whereas the silver has a red.
A fantastic piece of an artwork resides on the caseback of the watch by the artist Okse. Furthermore, the snap-on caseback has a curve designed to sit in the wrist joint for comfort. This watch is very comfortable on the wrist because of this addition and holds the watch lowdown to the wrist. Comfortable vintage leather straps add to this ability to feel light on the wrist despite its size.
Dial
Mentioned above Andy and Mark have taken two hobbies and a made geeky experiment, something that is only reserved for high-end cars. Their homage to Alfa Romeo is there for all to see on the dial. The domed dial has a cut out in the shape of a truncated triangle, a beautiful hint at the Alfa logo itself at the 6 o’clock area of the dial. The dial layout is another.
Movement
Beneath the dial is a Japanese Miyota 6P24 movement that Miyota states the accuracy of this movement to be +/-20 seconds/month. This Jumping hour movement consists of Hour and Minute discs, central seconds hand and a moonphase complication.

Packerging
The packaging is another great addition to this watch. Completely recyclable or usable. The box is completely cardboard and has a shredded paper cushion.
Each purchase comes with its own leather travel case as part of the sale. Again this comes in two colours black or vegetable tan colour. Two separate compartments make this a very useful addition. Zip pouch and watch pouch with folding tuck flap closure. Perfect for glasses and watch and glasses travel case.

Final Thoughts
MAALS watches enjoy nothing more than challenging convention. Jumping Over The Moon is a perfect example of that. Beautifully designed watches with their own mark and design stamp make them stand out in a crowded market space.
I’ve really enjoyed wearing both versions of theirs while I had them. Like their latest watch the Giri Ventiquattro the Jumping Over The Moon watch is a unique watch and a great talking point.
